40-year-old held for killing woman, her teen daughter in Mumbai

Vakola Police in Mumbai have arrested a 40-year-old man for allegedly killing a woman and her teenage daughter in their house in Santacruz (East).

The accused, identified as Suresh Jitakd Dukre, has been charged with murder under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code.

According to the police, the incident took place on Wednesday, when the accused allegedly attacked the 35-year-old woman, identified as Nalini, and her daughter Varsha (14), leading to their deaths. The victims’ bodies were later discovered from their residence.

Following the incident, the Vakola Police registered a case and began a search for the accused. It was discovered during the investigation that Dukre went into hiding and switched off his mobile phone to avoid detection.

Based on technical evidence and local intelligence, the police traced the accused to Gaya in Bihar, where he was found staying with a relative. A police team was sent to Bihar, and the accused was taken into custody and brought back to Mumbai.

Police said the motive for the murders appears to be personal enmity, though further investigation is underway.

Senior Police Inspector Deshmukh Bhajani, Additional Commissioner of Police (East Region) Rakesh Gaur, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 8) Pushpak Mundhe, and other officers supervised the investigation.

The accused has been remanded in police custody for further interrogation.
