23-year-old slits father, grandfather’s throats; surrenders to cops

A 23-year-old Sakinaka resident, Chetan Bhatre, slit the throats of his 50-year-old father, Manoj Bhatre, and 75-year-old grandfather, Babu Bhatre, at his residence on Tuesday night. He also attacked his uncle with the same knife used in the killings, seriously injuring him. The accused later surrendered at the Sakinaka police station in Andheri East.

According to the police, Chetan was frustrated with his father and grandfather, who fought every night after consuming alcohol at home. The youth was employed at a medical store and was one of the breadwinners of the family, along with his sister.

The incident occurred around 11 pm, after Manoj and Babu started fighting again. A police officer said, “In frustration, Chetan picked up a knife from the kitchen and attacked his father, slitting his throat and killing him. After his grandfather tried to intervene, Chetan killed him the same way.

Meanwhile, his uncle, Anil, also tried to step in, but Chetan attacked him with the knife. Anil managed to escape and informed the police.” The officer further said, “The accused subsequently went to the Sakinaka police station, surrendered himself, and handed over the murder weapon.”

Just a few days ago, a similar incident took place under the jurisdiction of the MHB Colony police station in Borivli, where a son hired contract killers to murder his father. The MHB police arrested both the son and the killer.
