12 BMC schools set sights on full pass rate in debut CBSE board exams

Even as the Diwali vacation is underway until November 3, as many as 480 students from BMC-run schools are to start classes this week itself in preparation for CBSE (Std X) board examinations.

The 2026 CBSE (Std X) board examinations will be held in two phases, with the first phase scheduled from February 17 to March 9, 2026, and the second phase from May 15 to June 1, 2026.

This will be the first time that students from 12 civic-run Mumbai Public Schools will appear for CBSE (Std X) boards with 100 per cent pass percentage as the civic body’s aim.

In the academic year 2024-25, students from only one BMC-run school appeared for the CBSE (Std X) examinations for the first time and secured a passing rate of 82 per cent. This time, with the goal of getting a perfect score, the students are soon to start online and in-school extra classes.

“We began the academic year (2025-26) in March instead of April for Std X students. The teachers also took classes during the July break, and the syllabus is nearly completed for all our schools,” said an official from the BMC’s education department.

The students are now to focus on solving practice papers and mock tests until their preliminaries and final exams, said the official, adding, “We have also been conducting a few open-book tests, a few strict pen-and-paper examinations, and the others are revision tests.”

A total of 38 BMC students had appeared for the CBSE (Std X) boards in the academic year 2024-25, of which 31 students passed, whereas 13 students passed with 80 per cent and above. The student with the highest score was from the Poonam Nagar civic school, who bagged 91 per cent.

This time, to amp up the student scores, the civic body has also trained four Std X teachers from every school at the municipal level, while providing training by the central board.
